Honestly, the Not Force stuff is okay, but after being blown away by the cool stuff Starfinder did with Solarians, and having the excellent D6 game if I want true Star Wars, I’m not that impressed. Lawful, neutral, and chaotic are renamed to make it clear that they’re really good and evil, which can fit a Star Wars style black and white morality but is less good if you’re following the other influences that make less use of that. Powers are still old school Vancian but the tendency is that rather than fire-and-forget attacks, expending a slot often gives you a cool ability for an hour or two. The obligatory Jedi ripoffs do have a few neat ideas. There’s even Void Knights for when you need Darth Vader. The Cylons do suffer a little from being given the name Cyborg, though that’s a side effect of the obvious need to give everything a generic name. There are copies of various Star Wars beasties, sand worms from Dune, Klingons, and even Cylons and Daleks. Divided into sentient beings and non-sentient creatures, if it’s in a major sci-fi franchise it’s probably here. The monsters are another case of the kitchen sink approach. Personally I’d just handle them as a special kind of vehicle. They aren’t really developed enough and probably should be in their own supplement where they can be more fully explored. They aren’t as fleshed out as the ships in Starfinder, but they do a better job of covering the important archetypes.

There’s a nice selection of example starships and pretty good rules for making new ones. The way these scales interact feels relatively simple but well done to me, as it’s largely a matter of doubling or halving damage. There’s personal scale combat as well as rules for starships, vehicles, and mecha. The rules are generally somewhat sparse, though they manage to cover all the basics of exploration, adventure, and of course combat. (Not that it necessarily is great in fantasy, of course.) As with other basic D&D inspired stuff, there’s race as class, but I feel that that doesn’t work so well in sci-fi since there’s less clear delineation of, say, why a bounty hunter can’t be a four armed spaceman. I’m not sure how well balanced the classes are, but I think everybody gets some fun abilities and that’s the real goal in this sort of old school inspired game.

Yes, really - there’s a knockoff transformers character class, and a rather clever one that lets you emulate any of what TV Tropes calls a Proud Warrior Race Guy. Perhaps the best example of this is in the selection of character classes, which has standards like pilot and soldier, but also lets you be Rocket Raccoon or an Autobot. Throughout most of the book there’s an everything and the kitchen sink attitude. I kinda wish that there had been a list of sources at the end because I know where a lot of this stuff comes from but I know I missed some references and would love to learn more about them. The intent is clearly to create something akin to Dungeons and Dragons but for science fantasy. I’m sort of torn on this game since it definitely has some neat ideas, and I think I do like it better than Swords and Wizardry.
